WOW 2.0 Connects High School Seniors to Jobs and Career Pathways with Purpose

More than 100 graduating high school seniors attended Tuesday’s Worlds of Work 2.0 event and left with job offers from local employers.

The first annual event was a scaled-down version of the North Florida Worlds of Work, better known as “WOW” — a two-day interactive job showcase that launched in 2023. The larger event is designed for ninth graders from across the region.

This week’s event brought more than 140 high-school seniors to Tallahassee State College to learn about potential careers upon graduation.

“We know that last year only 48% of graduating seniors enrolled in post-secondary education of any kind. This leaves 52% who need to be working,” said Corrie Melton, vice president of membership and talent development at the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.

Melton said the goal was to connect students who don’t go directly into some kind of education right after high school into a quality job with benefits and a built-in career pathway.

“We want to set students up for success no matter what path they take after high school.” she said, adding 112 students left with 331 contingent job offers. “Seeing the pride, and for some, amazement, in the students’ faces when they were told, “I’ll hire you” is what WOW 2.0 is all about.”

There will be an “Signing Day” event on May 8 to celebrate the new hires.
