HCA Florida Capital Hospital Receives 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award; Top 5% in Nation Six Years in a Row

HCA Florida Capital Hospital is honored to announce the hospital has once again been recognized with a 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, a comprehensive database of ratings and comparisons for physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers. This marks six years in a row that HCA Florida Capital Hospital has been named among the top 5% in the nation for patient safety. HCA Florida Capital Hospital is also among 100 HCA Florida Healthcare hospitals recognized by Healthgrades this year for high-quality care and prevention of serious safety events during hospital stays.

“At HCA Florida Capital Hospital, patient safety is our highest priority,” said Trey Blake, MD, chief medical officer. “Being in the top 5% in the nation speaks to our commitment to ensure that our patients receive the safest, most personalized medical care possible. We are dedicated to our investment in clinical quality and patient care, and providing an outstanding patient experience. We appreciate all of the contributions our hospital team members and providers have made to make this award possible.”

Healthgrades evaluated over 4,500 hospitals, assessing risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates. The analysis showed significant gaps between the highest- and lowest-achieving facilities. Between 2021 and 2023, 173,280 preventable safety events occurred among Medicare patients in U.S. hospitals. The annual study found that patients treated in hospitals that received the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award have a significantly lower chance of experiencing one of the four leading safety indicators than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals:
• In-hospital falls resulting in fracture (54% less likely)
• Collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest (55% less likely)
• Pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital (69% less likely)
• Catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital (72% less likely)
