Mike Akers first stepped into the financial industry in 2003 and has spent the last 16 years developing his knowledge and love for credit unions. He earned both an undergraduate and a Masters degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, and subsequently became a Community Development Certified Financial Counselor and a Credit Union Development Educator.
Throughout his career, Akers has proven himself to be an accomplished financial sales and marketing professional, an experienced strategist, and a strong leader who inspires his team to strive for greatness.
In February 2019, he was named CEO of FLAG Credit Union, and in 2020, he took the helm of Bay Credit Union in Panama City.
In 2022, he led the merger of those two financial institutions and rebranded the entire organization as Hello Credit Union in late 2023. “Hello Credit Union is all about offering consumer-friendly financial solutions. We’re a no-judgment zone!” Mike Akers. “We greet each day as a chance to improve our members’ lives and provide service with a smile.”
Hello CU serves a diverse population across the entire state of Florida and is committed to being a resource for the underserved. Since Akers took over in 2019, the credit union has grown from approximately $35 million to $168 million in assets, and from 6,000 in membership to nearly 12,000.
In closing Akers says, “I’m proud that we’re small enough to offer personal attention to each member while large enough to provide the products and services our members need. We invite everyone to experience the sunnyside of banking!”
Hello Credit Union was established in 1952 and is headquartered in Panama City. Since then, Hello Credit Union has grown to 12,800 members and $170mm in assets, serving members across the Florida Panhandle and beyond. Hello Credit Union’s mission is to serve as “the sunnyside of banking.”
