U.S. News & World Report Names Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare One of Top 25 Hospitals in Florida for 2022-2023

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has once again been recognized as a Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, a global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice. Following a thorough performance analysis using a variety of measures such as survival and complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care, U.S. News ranked TMH as the 24th best hospital in Florida for 2022-2023. TMH is one of two facilities in the Panhandle to make the ranking’s top 25 hospitals, and the Big Bend region’s only facility named a Best Hospital.

“It’s always been our priority to bring cutting-edge technologies, advanced clinical research and nationally recognized patient care right here to Tallahassee so our patients can stay near home to receive the highest levels of care,” said Mark O’Bryant, President & CEO of TMH. “Over the last 75 years, TMH has transformed from a small community hospital into a leading healthcare system in the Southeast. As we look to the future, we’re partnering with other leading organizations, like Florida State University, to continue this growth. It’s our goal to expand and strengthen our role as an academic medical center, serving as a hub for healthcare innovation, education and research.”

Tallahassee Memorial also earned seven “High Performing” hospital ratings from U.S. News for the following areas of care:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
    • Colon cancer surgery
    • Diabetes
    • Heart attack
    • Heart failure
    • Kidney failure
    • Stroke

“High Performing” is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings and indicates TMH provides care that is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.

“Being named one of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals is a win not just for our organization, but for our entire community,” said Jana Iezzi-Tumblin, Vice President and Chief Improvement Officer at Tallahassee Memorial. “We’re constantly working to improve patient outcomes by providing the highest quality of care possible. This recognition confirms that we are succeeding in our lifelong commitment to improvement.”

For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 33rd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.

“The hospitals named among the best have extensive medical expertise and a history of delivering good outcomes,” said Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor at U.S. News. “When patients and their medical professionals are considering their options for care, the rankings are designed to help them identify hospitals that are superior in the kind of care they may need.”
