TOC is proud to be the first in the region to offer a new and innovative procedure for patients suffering from chronic low back pain (CLBP). The treatment is the Intracept® Procedure, a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that is clinically proven to relieve chronic low pain. Gilbert Chandler, MD, recently completed the first procedure at TOC’s outpatient surgery center.
The treatment involves inserting a specialized probe targeting a nerve in the bones of the spine (vertebrae) and using radiofrequency energy (heat) to disable the nerve, rendering it unable to transmit pain signals. The Intracept Procedure, which has been shown to improve function and decrease pain, takes approximately 60-90 minutes, is implant-free, and preserves future treatment options.
“TOC is committed to providing our patients with the most effective and latest techniques to help our patients in their daily struggles with pain. Chronic low back pain affects the majority of adults, and therefore we are excited to be performing a minimally invasive procedure for severe disc degeneration with inflammatory changes,” said Dr. Chandler.
“We are excited to be offering the Intracept Procedure at TOC in our outpatient surgery center. Our entire team of physicians, medical providers, and staff remain focused on continually improving patient wellbeing and reducing avoidable and costly care commonly associated with back pain.”, said Mike Boblitz, CEO.
TOC has served North Florida and South Georgia as the region’s leading orthopedic practice for almost fifty years. More than seventy physicians and providers attend over 225,000 patient visits and conduct 12,500 annual surgeries across the practice’s seven clinic locations.
