“Shaping the Agenda”

One of the most important roles we assume as staff of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce is that of advocate. Every day, we serve as advocates on behalf of our members and the broader business community. More times than not, that means representing the interests of business when dealing with local government and other institutions that are important to the advancement of the community. We base our advocacy off two things, first is our Guiding Principles and second is feedback from you.

The Chamber’s Guiding Principles are used to help us determine what issues to weigh in on and what positions to take on those matters. These principles were built by our Business Advocacy Committee along with our Board of Directors and as we put them into practice, we continue to evaluate their meaning and impact by consulting members daily.

Feedback from members is essential to all parts of our operation as a Chamber, but when it comes to Advocacy, we simply cannot be successful without guidance from you. Although our principles remain firm, the issues in which we apply them change frequently. That is largely based off what we hear from our members while conducting our day to day business. From time to time we also like to seek more direct feedback that can be more easily tracked.

With that being said, we are pleased to offer our members an opportunity to provide feedback on what issues matter most. 2020 will be an important year for our community on many fronts. There will be another round of local elections and we will be planning to engage with candidates throughout the year. Next year is also significant in that it marks a transition to the next 20 years of sales tax driven infrastructure funding by Blueprint 2000. On top of those occasions, we also anticipate an important campaign regarding how we fund services for children and families. 2020 will be an important year for the future of Tallahassee and Leon County and when major issues arise, we plan to be right in the middle of it.

With your help, we will be crafting the 2020 Tallahassee Business Agenda – a concise guide to where the Chamber stands and why. The goal will be to release this document in the first quarter of the year and use it as an effective tool for communicating what matters most to you as a business leader. The 2020 Tallahassee Business Agenda will be available for our members, the public, and local officials to review so there is no question as to what we believe is best for business in the year ahead.

What we need from you is a few minutes of your time and some honest thoughts about the state of our community. We want to hear how your business is doing in the current environment and what issues affect you most. Our 2019 Chamber Member Advocacy Survey is now live and with your feedback we are confident we can help shape outcomes that are good for business in 2020 and beyond.

You can begin your survey by launching the survey below. Thank you for being a member of the Chamber and thanks for helping us shape the agenda for business in Tallahassee and Leon County.
