Meet the Future of HealthCare: Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Opens $270 Million Addition

For the past 70 years, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has had the privilege of serving the Big Bend region and beyond. This once small, city-owned hospital has grown into a private, not-for-profit, super-regional critical access facility with over 5,000 colleagues and almost 700 members of medical staff.

TMH’s growth is not only tied to the rise of the region’s population, but also the organization’s expansion into highly-specialized medical services that attract patients from across North Florida and adjoining states. Looking to Tallahassee’s future healthcare needs, TMH developed a plan to replace some aging areas within the Main Hospital – the adult intensive care units and operating rooms – with state-of-the-art facilities.

“A tremendous amount of planning and a $270 million investment has gone into the M.T. Mustian Center,” explained Mark O’Bryant, President & CEO of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. “This facility was designed and constructed to accommodate our surgery and adult ICU growth for the next 50 years. To accomplish that, we focused on ‘getting it right’ from the big picture to the tiny details, including planning for future facility expansion.”

The planning, designing and building of the new M.T. Mustian Center, named in memory of a long-time leader at TMH, has been a decade in the making. We’re proud to announce that our new facility will be open and fully operational in late spring. As an engaged member of Tallahassee’s business community, you have witnessed much of the physical change on TMH’s main campus over the past three years. Thank you for your interest, understanding and support around this expansion.

Here is what you can expect to find in the addition:

  • 340,000 square feet of space across 6 stories, plus a basement
  • 28 state-of-the-art operating rooms designed to accommodate the most complex surgeries
  • 4 interventional suites for the latest minimally invasive procedures, like stroke and aneurysm treatments using endovascular neurosurgery
  • 72 private, adult intensive care rooms
