The Tallahassee Ballet and Young Actors Theatre Unite for “Ballet & Broadway” First-time collaboration that celebrates Tallahassee’s arts community. The Tallahassee Ballet will open its 2026–2027 season with An Evening of Music & Dance: Ballet & Broadway, September 18 and 20 at Florida State University’s Opperman Music Hall. For the first time, The Tallahassee Ballet and Young Actors Theatre will share the stage in a collaboration celebrating the powerful connection between ballet, musical theatre, and live music. The production brings TTB’s professional dancers together with students from Young Actors Theatre and musicians from the FSU College of Music for an evening inspired by Broadway favorites including Cabaret, A Chorus Line, On Your Toes, and Rent. Highlights include Care Much, inspired by Cabaret; Slaughter on Tenth Avenue; a new work by TTB Artistic Director Meagan Helman to “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line; Seasons of Love, inspired by Rent, and more. TTB dancers and YAT students will also perform the iconic opening audition scene, “I Hope I Get It,” from A Chorus Line. “
This collaboration is a wonderful example of what can happen when Tallahassee’s arts organizations come together,” said Lauren Hernandez, CEO of The Tallahassee Ballet. “We have an incredibly talented arts community, and by sharing our artists, audiences, and resources, we make that community stronger. We are thrilled to begin our season by creating something together with Young Actors Theatre and the FSU College of Music. ” At Young Actors Theatre, we believe deeply in creating opportunities for young artists to work at the highest level and to see themselves as part of a larger artistic community,” said Sarah Roy, CEO of Young Actors Theatre. “Ballet & Broadway brings together the extraordinary talent of YAT, The Tallahassee Ballet, and the FSU College of Music, showcasing how we build a strong pipeline of talent and a thriving performing arts community in Tallahassee. “The performance will also be dedicated to the memory of Marianne Brooks, a beloved former TTB Guild Chair and longtime volunteer who passed away at the end of April. Brooks devoted countless hours to supporting The Tallahassee Ballet and its dancers, including her daughter, Elizabeth Brooks — former company member, and was a cherished member of the TTB family. “Marianne understood that the arts are ultimately about bringing people together,” Hernandez said. “She gave so much of herself to The Tallahassee Ballet and believed deeply in the importance of what we do. It is incredibly meaningful to dedicate this first collaboration with Young Actors Theatre to her, with a beautiful tribute to one of her favorite Broadway shows, CATS. The performances will reflect the joy, generosity, and sense of community that Marianne brought to TTB for so many years. “An Evening of Music & Dance: Ballet & Broadway showcases the strength of Tallahassee’s performing arts community and the possibilities that emerge when local organizations support and create with one another.
