Carrie Ann Baade-Muses and Mischief Opening Reception

Venvi Art Gallery presents Muses and Mischief, a solo exhibition by Carrie Ann Baade that transforms the visual language of Renaissance and Baroque painting into a contemporary world of mythology, psychological tension, and surreal metamorphosis. The exhibition will be open from November 6th to January 16th, with an opening reception on November 6th, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Baade’s paintings draw from art history, collage, allegory, and personal mythology, fragmenting and recombining saints, goddesses, monsters, animals, and self-portraits into new symbolic identities. Across her career, she has repeatedly returned to archetypes such as Medusa, Athena, Kali, and the Madonna, using their shifting meanings to explore feminine power, rage,
wisdom, transformation, and the instability of inherited myth. Baade treats art history as living material, something to dismantle, question, and remake.

Carrie Ann Baade is Professor of Art and Area Head of Painting and Drawing at Florida State University. Her work has appeared in more than 240 exhibitions internationally, including over 30 solo exhibitions. Her monograph, Scissors and Tears, was published by La Luz de Jesus Press in 2022.
