The FSU Alumni Association held its annual Spring Alumni Awards in April. At the ceremony, Elder Care Services’ President and CEO, Jocelyne M. Fliger, was honored with the Grad Made Good award for her fierce dedication and advocacy for Tallahassee’s senior population.
As a social worker, Jocelyne has always had a passion for making other people’s lives better. She received her MSW from FSU in 2015. Prior to joining Elder Care Services, she worked as a hotline counselor for 2-1-1 Big Bend and as an on-call Victim Advocate at FSU.
Starting in her role as CEO of Elder Care Services in the beginning of 2020, Jocelyne immediately faced the monumental task of leading the agency through the COVID-19 pandemic. A challenge she was more than happy to take on.
She transitioned Elder Care Services’ Meals on Wheels program from the traditional daily deliveries, to weekly deliveries with packs of frozen meals. This change allowed the agency to increase meal production by over 30%. With the move from daily meals, she arranged to have her staff and volunteers call clients to check on them every day. This decreased the need for physical contact and risk level for the seniors, while making sure they were safe and did not miss the vital human connection component of Meals on Wheels.
The FSU Alumni Association honored her for this adaptability during difficult transitions and her clinical expansion of support groups, including launching a monthly support group for LGBT+ seniors in the area.
As a Grad Made Good recipient, Jocelyne joins over 100 Florida State alumni who have received the award since 1974, including Honorable Reubin O ’D. Askew and Florida Supreme Court Justice Alan C. Sundberg.
Elder Care Services Board Chair, Victoria Heuler was thrilled to see this commitment honored. “We are incredibly proud of our fearless and tireless CEO, Jocelyne Fliger. The recognition of her outstanding achievements as a Florida State University Grad Made Good is so timely and well deserved! Josie brings immense compassion, vision and resilience in ensuring that our amazing senior population is provided for to create a positive aging experience. Elder Care Services’ future is bright with Josie leading the way!”
