Capital Regional Medical Center to Expand Rehabilitation Services
Hospital announces $23 million investment in community through Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Center

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Capital Regional Medical Center is expanding its rehabilitation services through the addition of a Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. The $23 million addition to Capital Regional Medical Center, slated to open 2022, will add to the array of high-quality care services provided to patients and create new career opportunities in the community.

“As our community continues to grow, there is a need for advanced inpatient rehabilitation services close to home,” said Alan Keesee, CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center. “The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Capital Regional will offer those who have been critically ill or injured, continuity-of-care and access to an array of rehabilitative specialists helping them regain strength to live life to the fullest.”

The new Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Center will increase access to healthcare, particularly for seniors, and bring more than 50 jobs to the community. The center will help patients overcome functional limitations brought on by injury or illness through three-or-more hours of therapy a day, six to seven days a week. The 27,000-square-foot, free-standing center will feature 20 private patient rooms, a gym and a dedicated dining room. The Rehabilitation Center will connect to the main hospital via a breezeway – a unique feature that allows easy access to the acute-care setting of the hospital, if needed.

Patients most frequently need inpatient rehabilitation if they have suffered one of the following:
• Stroke
• Cardiac and Pulmonary Events
• Brain, Back and Spinal Cord Injuries
• Orthopedic Fractures
• Amputations
• Neuromuscular Disorders

“The care team will include specially-trained physicians, nurses, speech language pathologists, and physical and occupational therapists,” said Lori Merritt, Rehabilitation Services Director. “We are excited to expand these services to our community, as we know how important comprehensive rehabilitation services are in the journey to recovery.”
