Youth Leadership Tallahassee (“YLT”), a program of Leadership Tallahassee and the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, proudly announces it has received an $8,000+ grant from Bank of America to support leadership development and experiential learning opportunities for high school juniors across the Tallahassee area.
Created as a class project of LT Class 20, YLT is currently in it’s 23rd class, bringing together a diverse group of students from public, private, charter and homeschools in the Tallahassee and Leon County areas for a 10-month experience designed to help young people discover their strengths, build leadership skills and develop a deeper understanding of their community. Through eight program days, students engage with local leaders, businesses, government agencies, nonprofits and other community partners to explore the people and systems that shape our local community.
Bank of America’s investment will help advance curriculum delivery, leadership assessments, experiential learning and other programming that gives these students practical tools for future success. Participants explore topics including leadership styles, conflict resolution, working across differences, public speaking, networking, professional presence, empathy and cultural awareness.
The program also challenges students to step outside of their comfort zones, work collaboratively, consider multiple perspectives and put leadership into practice through team-building activities and a culminating group project focused on consensus-building and collaborative problem-solving.
This support reflects Bank of America’s commitment to empowering communities through leadership development, collaboration, education and community-building, and for YLT, this grant represents an investment not only in today’s students, but in the future leaders who will help shape Tallahassee and Leon County for years to come.
