An arm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is giving Tallahassee’s Chamber a large grant to help bring more education and job equity to the community. Tallahassee Community College and the City of Tallahassee will be partners in the effort.
Local Chamber Vice President Corrie Melton said the Capital city is one of only seven communities in the country to receive the grant.
“The particular grant that we have received came down from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.”
It will be used, she said, to help more people go on to higher education and life-changing careers.
“Specifically the Black, Indigenous and people of color who we know have a much lower attainment rate than other populations and see how we can make it more equitable across the whole community.”
Melton said the Chamber’s existing partnership with Tallahassee Community College and the City of Tallahassee’s TEMPO program was a big factor in the awarding of the grant.
