Tallahassee Chamber urges residents to Shop Small™ on Small Business Saturday

Tallahassee, FL (November 20, 2012) – Today, the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce announced its support for Small Business Saturday, encouraging citizens to shop at their favorite small businesses on Saturday, November 24.

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicking off the busiest shopping days of the year, the Chamber is teaming up with American Express for Small Business Saturday™. Small Business Saturday, taking place between the two major annual shopping days, was started in 2010 by American Express to encourage consumers to visit local businesses during the holiday shopping season.

“Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses during the busiest shopping weekend of the year,” said Sue Dick, president of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. “By simply purchasing presents at a local business, we can each do our part to ensure our favorite stores are around next year and allow business owners to continue contributing to our economy.”

Understanding the important role small businesses place in creating a sustainable regional economy, the Chamber continues to work with businesses to provide them with the tools and resources needed to be successful. As one of many resources being provided to local businesses, the Chamber will be delivering Shop Small doormats to area stores.

“We are working with our local merchants to literally roll out the welcome mat to customers,” said Winston Howell, chairman of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. “The mats provide a great way for small businesses to let customers know they are making a powerful decision by entering a small, local business.”

Local businesses interested in obtaining tools and resources to market their business for the busy holiday season are encouraged to visit www.ShopSmall.com.

Citizens planning to shop local on Saturday, November 24 can find information on local businesses by visiting www.TalChamber.com and click business directory or visiting www.LocalBusinessSaturday.com.  American Express ® Card holders can get $25 back one time when spending $25 or more at a qualifying business location on November 24.
