“Summer Business Series”

Things are changing quickly. After a few months where time seemed to drag on, the calendar is starting to accelerate again. Somehow, it’s about to be June! With a new month and a new season upon us there are also new positive trends which point to the re-opening of our economy. Here in Tallahassee, businesses are closely following guidelines aimed at helping them safely return to work. There is evidence of companies hiring people back to jobs that temporarily disappeared and plans that were previously postponed are now being revived. Although many challenges remain, there is much to be optimistic about.

Recognizing this shift in how our community conducts business, our team decided to do some outreach to members and measure what resources could be most helpful during this Summer of transition. Through hundreds of survey responses, members shared a desire to learn about a variety of subjects. Topics like employee motivation, the state of our economy, dynamic leadership, and post COVID-19 business strategies were all at the top of the response list.

With our member’s needs in mind, we created a new program series for the month of June which will feature webinars with both local members and out-of-market experts. The Summer Business Series will kick-off next week with a presentation from Tom Derzypolski, President of BowStern. In this webinar, Derzypolski will offer guidance on how companies can transition their team into a new normal of operations. The webinar series will continue each Thursday through the end of June.

As our team was developing the Summer Business Series, there were several other important factors to consider. We have spent a great deal of time in recent weeks learning about how other Chambers of Commerce across the country are driving value to their members through virtual programming that has been like ours. One of the things that stood out is how Chambers are using webinars and other programs to highlight the value of membership while also attracting new members. Learning from our peers, we decided to make the Summer Business Series free to members with a nominal fee for non-members.

Since the beginning of the “Safer At Home” orders, we have seen a record number of non-member participants enjoying our online programming. That is a sign that we are on the right path. Our hope is that many of those non-members will not only continue to attend, but also come to support our mission through membership. If you know someone who might benefit from the collective expertise of our webinars and other business programming, we hope you’ll share the Summer Business Series with them.
