Report: Tallahassee’s economy growing at healthy pace

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – The June Tallahassee Economic Report shows the first sign of positive growth for 2018.

One big contributing factor, a record nine months of traffic at the airport.

There’s also been a rise in construction permits for residential and commercial properties, as well as a continuously dropping unemployment rate.

The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce says there were nearly 3,000 more filled jobs this July than the previous.

“July’s job numbers actually showed the seventh straight month in which the job totals for that particular month were a record high in our community,” said Jay Revell, the vice president of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. “So you’ve got record highs for job totals, month over month, which is a great sign. And you’ve got low unemployment.”

Chamber Vice President Jay Revell says everything adds up to show Tallahassee’s economy is growing at a healthy pace.

And if the trend continues, the Capital City’s economy is expected to soar even higher this fall, which is considered the peak season.
