Venvi Art Gallery is pleased to present “Mélange,” a joint exhibition by Terrie Corbett, Nancy Dillen, and Grace Leal. The title; a French word describing a mixture or medley of things, evokes the colorful contrasting styles of the three artists fusing into a singular, dynamic showcasing. All of the artists a part of this exhibition highly emphasize their process in creating the work. Terrie Corbett uses many layers with different mediums in order to get the end result. Nancy Dillen keens in on the importance of keeping imagination alive in her work. By doing that, Dillen plans out scenes to paint that include elements of the real and the imaginary. Grace Leal uses different mediums in her process, similar to Terrie Corbett.Terrie Corbett uses traditional painting and drawing techniques combined with personal mark-making to create abstract and expressive pieces. I work intuitively and in several different mediums – Encaustic, Oil and wax, and layered Graphite. Corbett lives and works in Tallahassee, Florida. Her work can be found in several permanent and private collections.Nancy Dillen creates work from the real and imaginary. Her oil paintings treat these concerns by placing symbols found in the local environment, along with the real and or invented characters that inhabit her whimsical make-believe world against the intense color and open space of Florida and other places she has visited and imagined. The intensity of color and contrast found in Nancy’s works reflect her single-mindedness. Using her vocabulary of symbols, she makes a statement on contemporary society. To her, art and teaching are one. Each challenges the other to see the world in a new light.Grace Leal is an artist working in several disciplines: mixed-media paintings, monotypes, collage, assemblages and installations. Leal is committed to her concept, but not necessarily her choice of medium. Leal has been influenced by sociological and anthological principles, along with, the idea of acculturation and the interrelations between peoples from a range of cultures provide a fertile ground for exploration. This exploration is challenging and imbuing content in her work.15% of proceeds from the exhibition will support the “Grow Getters” project, building raised garden beds for interactive education and a captivating mural at Second Harvest of the Big Bend, led by Leadership Tallahassee 40.“Mélange” will be on display from July 7th to August 20th, 2023, Venvi Art Gallery is located at 2901 East Park Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32301. Why I joined the Chamber
“After being a growing performance improvement and instructional design company for over eight years, I decided a year and a half ago to join the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. It’s a decision I’m glad I made! I’ve made new and valuable connections through the networking provided by Professional Women’s Forum lunches, their Annual Breakfasts, the CEO forum, and their amazing annual Amelia Island Chamber conference. I’ve also benefited from being a member of one of the Chamber committees and working closely with other successful businesspersons. In addition, key Chamber staff have brokered introductions for me as needed to advance my business interests. As the result, I find I’ve developed increasingly close connections with influential community members and have gotten great business referrals that are paying off in tangible ways. I have nothing but good to say about the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. I hope you will consider joining us in building a better future for ourselves and our Tallahassee neighborhood. ”
