Local Charter School Accepted into Amazon Future Engineer Program

The Tallahassee School of Math and Science (TSMS) has been accepted into the Amazon Future Engineer program in partnership with Project STEM. The Amazon Future Engineer program works to ensure that all students have access to essential computer science and STEM courses to prepare them for the future in an ever-changing digital world.

Project STEM is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing equity in computer science and STEM education by inspiring and empowering PreK-12 students and teachers in schools and districts across the U.S. The program acknowledges that computer science and STEM is critical in engaging students and helping them acquire the resources they need to change the world.

Amazon’s Project STEM was founded on three main beliefs. The first is commitment to access and equity. Project STEM works hard to close the equity gaps within computer science and STEM and ensure all students can have access to a high-quality STEM education. The second belief is early exposure. The program believes these early foundations are vital to setting up students for success for pursuing STEM in their later education. The third belief is an intensive school support model that includes an array of materials and teaching supports to specifically target their needs.

TSMS Principal Ahmet Temel expressed his excitement to partner with Amazon and this program at the school. “We know that STEM education is the future of our society. We are proud to be able to offer these courses and this program to our students. We can’t wait to see the incredible opportunities that come out of this partnership.”

TSMS is designed to provide a research-based curriculum and offers a number of free extracurricular activities – such as robotics, Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad and college tutoring, as well as soccer, basketball and art – to allow students an opportunity to expand their knowledge outside of the classroom. TSMS recognizes the importance of student-parent-teacher relationships for a student’s academic success. Parents receive real-time access to student grades and test results, and also appreciate that their child is receiving the individual attention necessary to achieve their personal goals.
