Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce launches new effort to connect job seekers with employers

From WTXL

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Job creation can’t come soon enough for the thousands of people working to get back on their feet after COVID-19.

The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce hopes to capitalize on some of the newly available talents and get city employers staffed up all the way through 2030.

In the next 10 years, Tallahassee and the Leon County area will need close to 18,000 jobs. It’s a promising figure for more than 3,000 people in Leon County who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

But it can be a challenge pairing the people with the right skill set to employer needs. Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce president Sue Dick explains how their new platform, Talent Hub 2030, can help.

“What Talent 2030 has done, it has really created the collaboration between all of the resources that are in our community,” said Dick. “So CareerSource Capital Region, which is an excellent resource, we are working in partnership with them to post jobs as well that are available. TCC that provides wonderful training programs, we’ll be coordinating with TCC with information for individuals that want to change their skill set to maybe get some training for jobs in the future.”

Some local employers, like Blake Dowling the CEO of Aegis Technologies, already have job openings posted on the site.

Dowling says he’s choosing Talent Hub instead of others like Monster or Indeed in hopes of curating high caliber candidates.

“Getting the diamonds to the door through this type of portal and this type of initiative will eliminate the volume of resumes that we get,” Dowling said.

You’ll be able to view videos of people on the job that you may be seeking and complete targeted-training for their future positions. The chamber president says many of the available jobs are in the technology and healthcare industries.
