Trained as a musician, conditioned as a hiker, Ian Evans Guthrie began creating home-made videos of his outdoor adventures in his teenage years. Through his Modernist Art History course, he discovered a fascination for modern music and radically enlarged his musical palette. In 2019, he composed his award-winning work Those Left Behind on his impressions of Mark Messersmith’s painting of the same name. More recently, he has begun collaborating with dancers and choreographers, and is becoming increasingly conscious of the interdisciplinary influences on his works. Indeed, many of his works incorporate other arts, including poetry, narrative, images, videos, and/or choreography. Come hear Guthrie talk about his artistic journey, and see some of his works in action with some of his collaborators, including his current work with Venvi Art Gallery.
