City of Tallahassee Hosts Active Living Expo

The 15th annual Active Living Expo will be held Thursday and Friday, September 12–13, at the Tallahassee Senior Center (TSC). More than 75 exhibitors will provide information on health and community resources geared to Tallahassee’s expanding senior population. The Expo is open to the public, and a $3 admission ticket is good for both days. Complimentary valet parking is available.
New to the expo this year, a pre-event, “Boom Back to the Future,” will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 3-8 p.m. This special Boomer Expo features keynote speaker Dr. Bill Thomas, who shares the “Life Reimagined” concept and how midlife adults can make exploration and growth part of their lifelong journey of discovery. Local vendors will showcase cultural activities, educational opportunities, health and fitness, travel and volunteer prospects in Tallahassee and beyond. Experts will discuss brain fitness, lifelong learning and how to think about “What’s Next” in life. Registration for the Boomer Expo is required; call 877-926-8300 or visit the registration website. There is no cost for the event; dinner is optional and costs $7. This event is sponsored by AARP.
The Active Living Expo kicks off Thursday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. with a happy hour reception, vendors, games and more, which lasts until 8 p.m. Friday’s festivities begin with the Flu Shot Fair at 9 a.m. (offering inoculations until 1 p.m.), and Expo events run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Seniors, caregivers, professionals and those simply interested in aging issues can expect to receive information about a variety of resources spanning from planning for retirement to end of life. The event features numerous health screenings, interactive displays, demonstrations, door prizes and more.
Sponsors for this year’s Active Living Expo include Tallahassee Memorial Home Health Care, Tallahassee Democrat, United Health Care, Bath Fitter, WellCare, National Cremation, Walgreens and McDonnell. Hosts for the event include Area Agency on Aging, Tallahassee Senior Services and the Tallahassee Senior Foundation.
