Talquin Electric Cooperative and FAMU-FSU College of Engineering have partnered on this educational initiative which will be the first-ever annual Big Bend Youth Energy Academy (BBYEA) in our region. It is a two-day virtual event on July 15-16, 2021, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We are inviting sixty 8th to 12th-grade students to participate and enjoy learning about energy.
The Youth Energy Academy will do the following:
- Educate and spark the interest of a diverse population of the emerging workforce in the energy arena.
- Introduce students to traditional and non-traditional science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers in the energy industry.
- Help the business community understand the premise of investing in today’s youth.
- Align education with workforce needs.
The Academy will promote engagement, attentiveness, comprehension, and inquisition about various energy concepts. It will also teach participants about different careers in the utility industry and motivate them to pursue these types of career pathways. The educational event will continue to empower the youth in our community by being a key driver of innovation in reaching students and potential future employees.
The goal is to provide students a pathway to learning more about the energy industry through hands-on workshops, panel discussions, educational materials, and networking with professionals in the field.
