AMWAT Moving Summer Fill a Truck Benefitting 2nd Harvest of Big Bend

Summer break is quickly approaching for thousands of children.  With Leon County experiencing a 20.5% poverty rate, we have over 20,000 children who are food insecure.  Many of these kids rely on free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch and snacks during the school year that vanish during summer break.   As a result, Second Harvest of the Big Bend experiences a dramatic increase in the need for food assistance.
No child in our community should be going hungry.  AMWAT Moving Warehousing & Storage has once again partnered with Second Harvest, Tallahassee Democrat and WTXL-ABC for the 6th Annual Summer Fill-a-Truck Food & Fund Drive on Thursday, May 30th, at the Tallahassee Democrat from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  You can help us fill a truck full of nonperishable food and funds to ensure Second Harvest is well stocked for the summer demand.  Every $10 provides 40 meals to hungry families in our community.  Funds can be easily donated via Second Harvest’s website or bring cash, checks (memo “Fill-a-Truck”) and/or your food donations on May 30th to the Tallahassee Democrat.
Area businesses can compete for the Soup Can Trophy and Spoon Trophy awarded to the organizations who donate the most pounds in food and funds, respectively.  Organizations increase their chances of winning one or both trophies by becoming a collection site (drop off station).  AMWAT and Second Harvest have collection bins available should you desire to pick one up.  Please contact Second Harvest at 850-562-3033.
The sooner you start collecting food and funds, the better chances you have of winning the coveted Soup Can Trophy or Spoon Trophy.   Please contact me at 850-877-7131 with any questions and/or comments.  We hope to see you on May 30th.  Let’s make this a HUNGRY FREE SUMMER!
