On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Walt Disney World donated $10,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend (BBBS) at the State of Florida Capitol. Walt Disney World celebrates 50 years of impact on the state of Florida this year and one of the many ways they’re celebrating is by giving back through financial contributions to support youth mentoring programs across the state through their Disney VoluntEARS program.
The contribution will help support BBBS’s mission to create and support one to one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth in the Big Bend.
BBBS is committed to helping children across the Big Bend region, focusing on children ages 6-18 years old in Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor and Wakulla counties. The youth served by BBBS report higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors, and educational success. Littles (youth served in mentoring programs) often face societal barriers, opportunity gaps and adversities including poverty and identity-based discriminations in their communities. For many, their time with their Big (volunteer mentor) is an opportunity to face these barriers together, to build confidence and resilience through a positive relationship.
