Community Leaders Come Together To Support Elder Care Services’ Meals on Wheels Program

Elder Care Services hosted its Big Wheels Deliver Meals event on May 16. Leaders and media personalities from across the community gathered at the FSU Alumni Center to participate in the initiative, picking up hot meals from Elder Care Services to personally deliver to homebound seniors in the community.

The event raises awareness about the importance of Meals on Wheels and promotes community engagement. It provided an opportunity for seniors to interact with community leaders and be reminded of their value in the community.

Over 210 meals were delivered by the Big Wheels participants, bringing smiles and joy to the seniors who received them. The event fostered a sense of connection and appreciation as community leaders took the time to visit and connect with the homebound seniors.

Some community leaders in attendance included Florida State Representative Allison Tant, City of Tallahassee Mayor John E. Dailey, Leon County Commissioners Rick Minor and David O’Keefe, WCTV reporters Julie Montanaro and Casanova Nurse, among others. All participants played a significant role in making the event meaningful for the seniors and the community.

Elder Care Services extends its gratitude to the sponsors who made Big Wheels Deliver Meals possible, Capital Health Plan, Prime Meridian Bank, and AARP Florida. Their support not only contributed to the success of this initiative but helps sustain Elder Care Services’ Meals on Wheels program.

“We are incredibly proud of the success of our Big Wheels Deliver Meals event,” said Elder Care Services’ Chief Development Officer, Nicole Ballas. “The smiles and joy we saw on the faces of the seniors as they received their meals were truly heartwarming. This event raised awareness about the essential role of Meals on Wheels in our community and reinforced the profound value we place on seniors as cherished members of our community.”

Big Wheels Deliver Meals serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and the difference made by reaching out to those in need. Elder Care Services remains committed to providing essential services and support to seniors, empowering them to maintain their independence and quality of life.
