Rodney Lewis, AIA is a Principal and Co-Founder of Architects Lewis + Whitlock (ALW), a market-leading design firm established in Tallahassee in 2000. Rodney founded the firm with his partner Cam Whitlock after studying architecture together at Florida A&M University and working at other local firms for nearly a decade. The two shared a desire to create a positive work environment that would allow them to do what they love while engaging creativity, cultivating talent, and fostering a spirit of camaraderie.
This January marked ALW’s 20th year in business. With a vigorous active project list and imminent deadlines, the pandemic forced the team to transition their work efforts from the studio to individual home offices. “The true strength of the team we have assembled here at ALW has become abundantly clear during these past few weeks – in all aspects of the business,” Rodney shared. “The creative and exceptionally talented team at ALW has pushed through these tough times and worked to complete our client’s projects, all while maintaining as much a sense of camaraderie as possible with weekly team meetings and happy hours via virtual meetings!”
To continue the firm’s legacy into its third decade, ALW promoted key team members to ‘Associate’ leadership positions: Kathryn Stivers, AIA, LEED AP; Sean Morgan, AIA; Alana Taylor; Ryan Sheplak and Ben Baylor. Each of these individuals embody the firm’s core values of providing professionalism, dedication, leadership, and commitment to creativity and craft. They will take on expanded roles in leading the firm and its pursuit of quality design. These new appointments respond to the firm’s growth path and expansion of capabilities, with new commissions for institutional, cultural, multi-family, residential and commercial clientele.
