CEO Spotlight – Ricardo Schneider, Danfoss Turbocor®

Danfoss is the leading manufacturer of oil-free compressors and is the pioneer of the Danfoss Turbocor® compressor – the world’s first oil-free magnetic bearing compressor for the HVAC industry.  Danfoss Turbocor® compressors use advanced technology to deliver high efficiency and low sound levels in a compact footprint.  Industry-leading performance is achieved by using oil-free, magnetic bearings and integrated variable speed drives that provide world-class efficiency and zero performance degradation over the life of the compressor.

Danfoss Turbocor® oil-free centrifugal compressors have the flexibility to be used in air-cooled, water-cooled or evaporative cooled chillers operating in a wide range of applications such as comfort cooling, low-temperature process, ice storage and heat recovery. This flexibility has resulted in over 100,000 compressors being installed in job sites around the world.

Turbocor® oil-free compressors is the technology of choice for customers who demand not only high efficiency but also the ability to operate in mission-critical applications such as Data Centers.  “Data Center applications operate 24/7 and need the highest levels of efficiency, low maintenance and no downtime.  Oil-free compressors offer the best solution to meet this need”, said Ricardo Schneider, President Danfoss Turbocor Compressors.

Innovation is at the heart of Danfoss with recent product launches including the first oil-free compressor to use low GWP refrigerants HFO-1234ze and R515B to help minimize the effects of global warming.  In addition, Turbocor offers the only oil-free compressor that can be used in heating applications such as heat pumps, with the new TTH/TGH High Lift Compressor.  Using oil-free compressors to replace traditional fossil fuel heating equipment further reduces harmful carbon emissions.

Danfoss Turbocor® compressors are manufactured in high technology manufacturing facilities in Tallahassee, Florida and Shanghai, China.  Sales and service centers are located in the USA, Europe and Asia to serve customers around the world.

Moving forward, the demand for high-efficiency oil-free compressors remains strong as ever.  The unprecedented global pandemic resulted in the construction of new IT infrastructure to support the shift in the workplace to home – all requiring cooling from Turbocor compressors.  This opportunity means more investment through a new 150,000 sq ft expansion at the Tallahassee facility.

“We are pleased to bring additional engineering and manufacturing investment to Tallahassee and are excited to continue to build on our success here,” said Ricardo Schneider.  “This area offers us tremendous opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers in aerodynamics, power electronics, and magnetic technologies — and we have a strong partnership with Florida State University and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, which have been instrumental in helping Danfoss engineer world-class technology that addresses critical energy issues around the world,” he added.
