The Chamber’s Business Advocacy Committee continues to monitor local government and report out information that may be pertinent for your business.

Below you will find highlighted items in the upcoming County and City Commission meetings that we wanted to bring your your attention, in addition to updates of ongoing BAC efforts.

LEON COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING 5/10 AT 3:00PM

Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding to Expand CareerSource Capital Region Services through the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System:

  • This item expands a partnership between the County and CareerSource CR to bring additional workforce training and job pairing opportunities to citizens via the County’s seven branches of the Leroy Collins Public Library System.
  •  Services include enhanced access to the Employ Florida Workplace portals and quarterly workshop for citizens.

First and Only Public Hearing to Adopt an Ordinance Amending the Review Process for Accessory Dwelling Units:

  • This item eases the burden on builders and homeowners seeking to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to an existing residential home site. Reducing costs and time required to permit an ADU in the County.
  • Currently a standard ADU permit would take more than 30 days to be issued at a minimal cost of $1,742 in permit fees to the homeowner.
  •  Proposed is a revised system for ADU’s that would reduce wait times by 45% and produce a minimal savings of $1,697 for homeowners seeking such a permit.
