Each year, the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce hands out the Godfrey Smith Past Chairman’s Award. This award honors an individual who has provided significant contributions to the business community before, during and after their tenure as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. The award was named after William Godfrey Smith, the first recipient; an individual who epitomized the ideals of honor, dedication and commitment in our community.
In years past, this award was handed out during Leadership Tallahassee’s Distinguished Leadership Awards. For the first time ever, this award will be given out during the Chamber’s Annual Breakfast Meeting, sponsored by Florida Blue. This year’s award winner provides an interesting dynamic as we honor Bill Smith, President of Capital City Bank Group and the son of Godfrey Smith himself. Bill Smith served as the 1996-1997 Chairman at the Chamber.
The Annual Breakfast Meeting will also include current Chairman, Bill Moor discussing all of the great programs and initiatives that the Chamber was involved with this past year. This meeting will mark the end of Moor’s term as Chairman and the beginning of incoming Chairman Winston Howell’s term. Howell will be outlining the direction of the Chamber for the coming year.
