Our community has experienced significant success recently, and the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County are pleased to play the role of facilitator, convener and advocator for our region. Recent successes include increased collaboration and communication between the business community and our local city and county leaders, promotion of local suppliers and services to national companies like Whole Foods Market and Bass Pro Shops, as well as supporting recent relocation efforts like the Kaye Scholer law firm and the more than 400 jobs the three national companies are bringing with them, not to mention involvement with the recent kickoff of Imagine Tallahassee. The Chamber also ensures businesses currently in the region as well as those considering moving here have a talented and skilled workforce available to them through our partnership with WORKFORCE Plus.
These success stories and community assets were recently profiled in the state’s popular leading business industry magazine Florida Trend, which released a community portrait of Tallahassee in their June issue. This portrait was a wonderful representation of the region. What you may not be aware of, is that Chamber/EDC staff worked closely with Moore Communications Group and the writers and editors of Florida Trend to ensure our community was showcased in the best light. This profile highlighted the Capital City’s new business additions, major projects and commercial developments, neighborhoods, restaurants, business and civic leaders and more. It also listed the region’s advantages in key economic trends and statistics including our decreasing unemployment rate and job creation efforts, impact and importance of having three institutions of higher learning, world class K-12 school system, and some of the unique companies that call Tallahassee home.
Even with all of the great stories and information, the Chamber/EDC wanted to ensure that the rest of the state, national and global readership were made aware of the region’s increased focus and importance on supporting businesses and increasing job growth. In the June Florida Trend Research Florida section, the Chamber and its affiliate program, the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, collaborated in promoting our higher education institutions, existing industries, educated workforce and world class research and development facilities that are creating an innovative business climate for our region. This two page advertorial highlighted the economic diversity in our community and the advanced and unique entrepreneurial stories taking place in our own backyard.
This coordination and promotion with Florida Trend is another example of the value of your membership and investment by having the Chamber and Economic Development Council continuously working together to support your business. Whether it is advocating on your behalf with our local and state leaders, creating important coalitions with key organizations and government officials or identifying ways to market our community to a statewide, national and global audience, you can focus on your business knowing we’re keeping a pulse on the issues that impact you, and determining what we can do to help our business community thrive.
