Registration Deadline Approaching For Area Math Stars Competition

Local elementary school students have less than two weeks remaining to register for the 11th Annual Math Stars Competition hosted by the Tallahassee School of Math and Science (TSMS) on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Math Stars Competition provides an opportunity to recognize outstanding young mathematicians and stimulate interest in mathematics among students throughout Leon County.

“We encourage third, fourth and fifth graders from schools across Leon County to sign up for our Math Stars Competition before the registration deadline,” said Ahmet Temel, principal of TSMS. “Students will have a chance to put their math skills to the test while competing to win a variety of prizes. We look forward to crowning a new Math Stars champion on Jan. 27.”

The Math Stars Competition will commence at 8:30 a.m. with light refreshments and a tour of the school. Two rounds of competition will follow, concluding with the award ceremony at noon. Mini-events such as Hidato, speed math and the smallest integer game will be held before and during the lunch break.

The top three “Math Stars” will receive a $100, $75 and $50 gift card, respectively. Trophies will be awarded to the top five contestants, and medals will be prized to those in sixth-10th place.

Registration to participate in the Math Stars Competition is open until Wednesday, Jan. 24, and requires a fee of $10, which includes lunch. To register, please visit
