LAF President Jami Coleman Honored by National Bar Association as Nation’s Best Advocate

Congratulations to Legal Aid Foundation President, Jami A. Coleman of Viera Williams, P.A., on being honored by the National Bar Association as the 2016-2017 Nation’s Best Advocate. During the 91st Annual National Bar Association in St. Louis, Missouri, the 74th President, Attorney Benjamin L. Crump and the Selection Committee, inducted Jami A. Coleman as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Advocates in the Nation, and amongst the Top 40 Advocates, Jami A. Coleman received the highest recognition as the 2016-2017 Nation’s Best Advocate.

Jami Aisha Coleman is an attorney that practices in the areas of Tax Law, Probate, Estate Planning, and Business Law. Ms. Coleman earned her Bachelors of Science Degree from Florida State University and her Juris Doctorate from Florida State University College of Law.

She earned her Masters of Law in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. While completing her studies at Georgetown, Ms. Coleman interned for Special Trial Judge John F. Dean at the United States Tax Court. Upon graduation from Georgetown, Jami continued her internship with the United States Tax Court until she relocated back to Tallahassee, Florida where she began volunteering and then working for Legal Services of North Florida in the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). As a LITC attorney, Jami Coleman assisted over 300 individuals and families with their disputes against the Internal Revenue Service. In 2010, Jami joined Viera Williams P.A., where she primarily serves companies and individuals with their business and tax matters. She is admitted to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Tax Court. In addition to her practice, Jami is an owner/partner of WHYTE & Co., a consulting firm.

Jami A. Coleman is very passionate about serving her community. Currently she is the President of the Legal Aid Foundation of Tallahassee, Secretary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend, Secretary of Project Embrace Inc., Director of the Tallahassee Bar Association Young Lawyer Section, Past Historian and Member of the Tallahassee Barristers Association, Committee Member of the Florida Bar’s Registered Paralegal Committee, Class III Fellow with the Wm. Reece Florida Bar Leadership Academy, an Associate Member of the William H. Stafford Inns of Court, and an Adjunct Professor at Florida A&M University, where she teaches corporate and individual income tax in the School of Business and Industry. Jami A. Coleman is also affiliated with the business leagues in Tallahassee, particularly the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Leadership Council of the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce, and Business Network International. However, her greatest role and achievements continue to be her two children, Ariel (12) and Khari (17).
