The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region was informed that Governor Scott has appointed three new members to the board of directors. Monesia T. Brown, of Tallahassee has been appointed as the new board chair and succeeds Bryan Desloge. Paula Arnold, of Greenville, is the owner of Quest Management Consultants and succeeds Maureen McCarthy-Daughton and Janice Sumner, of Blountstown is a broker with United Country Real Estate and succeeds Moneisa Brown.
Monesia is an attorney in Leon County at the firm of Metz Husband and Daughton. Prior to joining private practice, she served as Director of the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) (currently the Department of Economic Opportunity). During her time as Director, one of Monesia’s responsibilities included the management of Florida’s early learning program. On her appointment, Monesia said “I truly appreciate Governor Scott’s appointment for both personal and professional reasons. As a mother of two, I know firsthand that exposure to quality early learning opportunities are essential to the development of young children. Professionally, the impact that quality early learning programs have on children as well as parents, the community and the economy is undeniable.” The ELC works with contracted child care providers, many of which are private businesses, to deliver Florida’s school readiness and voluntary prekindergarten program to families in our community. Through these contracts, over $1 million dollars per month is infused into the local economy. The ELC provides services in Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Liberty, Taylor, Jefferson and Madison counties.
CEO of the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend, Matt Guse, was thrilled with the new appointments, “Early Learning Coalition Boards are a critical part of the Early Learning system in Florida. Engagement from the private sector is a tremendous asset to the ELCs statewide, and I am excited to have three great community leaders on our Board.”
