The Foundation for Leon County Schools will be awarding public schools more than $100,000 this year for programs and resources that are not funded by tax dollars. Because the Foundation belongs to the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations, it receives a matching grant from the State. This year’s allotment is $50,000 and the Foundation will raise the match at this year’s annual Friends of the Foundation Harvest Moon Soiree on October 10th from 5:30-8:00 PM at the Goodwood Museum. “We plan to break a record this year,” says Dave Vincent, the Foundation’s chairman. “Thanks to generous corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, and a super silent auction, we know we’ll exceed our goal. We’re thankful for a community that understands the importance of keeping our school district in the top performing districts in the state,” Vincent states.
The Foundation plans to help the District fund Common Core professional development for teachers and also award dollars to teachers through its Mini-grant program. For more information about tickets and mini-grants, please contact Sheila Costigan at email@example.com.
