Area golfers will have an opportunity on Sept. 9 to tee off for an important community cause at the 13th Annual Dr. Bass’ Large Mouth Open Golf Tournament. The tournament is sponsored by Big Bend Hospice and Capital City Bank and will be held at Golden Eagle Country Club. Proceeds will support Big Bend Hospice.
“You don’t have to be an avid golfer to come out and enjoy the tournament,” said Jack Frazee, tournament chairman. “As in years past, this tournament promises to be a fun-filled event that supports a worthy cause – one that has touched the lives of many in our community for the last 30 years.”
Area residents and businesses can participate on teams or as sponsors and enjoy a day of competition. Over the past 13 years, the tournament has generated more than $500,000 to support patients and families under Big Bend Hospice’s care.
Big Bend Hospice plans to use proceeds from the tournament to aid several of its services, including its music therapy program, bereavement services for children, the renovation of the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House and the construction of the Jean McCully Family House.
This year’s tournament will include two flights of golf beginning with a morning round followed by lunch and the morning awards ceremony, and an afternoon flight followed by a reception and the afternoon awards ceremony.
In addition to slots in the tournament still being open for individual players and teams, an array of sponsorship opportunities also are still available.
“Even if people can’t play, we hope they’ll support the great work and programs of Big Bend Hospice by making a contribution or signing up for one of our affordable sponsorships,” said Frazee.
The Dr. Bass tournament will be preceded by Big Bend Hospice’s 30th Anniversary celebration at Hotel Duval on Sept. 8. That event features a gala party with refreshments and many unique auction items.
