Commercial Building Permitting Process Goes Paperless

The City of Tallahassee’s Growth Management department announced today that customers submitting commercial building permits with a valuation greater than $25,000 can do it from the convenience of their office or home.

This newly automated process is the most recent addition to
City Projects. Established by the Growth Management department to further assist customers’ needs, City Projects is an online application submittal and electronic review system designed to make the permitting process more efficient for customers.

“When we talk with customers, they are quick to let us know that time is money,” said Karen Jumonville, Director of Growth Management. “With this new system, applicants can upload building permit plans from the convenience of their offices and track the progress of the review electronically. That not only saves them money, but means new developments can occur more quickly in our community, which is good for our economy and the job market.”

For the last month, Growth Management staff has hosted training sessions for interested customers, including architects, engineers, developers and contractors. Additional training opportunities are available to customers and include a series of online videos. First time users may also find the Getting Started with City Projects guide useful.

Other online customer focused programs include
Digital Signatures, which allows customers to prove the identity or authenticity of a document, and a Live Chat box, which is available from the Growth Management page on Talgov.com from 7:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
