Carrie began her career in hospitality at the age of eight when her parents purchased a small roadside motel in Indiana. She was very involved in the operations, especially on the weekends and during the summers. Whether it be working alongside her father doing maintenance, cleaning rooms or talking to the guests, she became passionate about the industry and decided that she would make a career in hotels.
Carrie decided to pursue a Hospitality degree from Purdue University. In 2004, she started in Auburn Hills, Michigan at a Courtyard by Marriott with Marriott International as an Operations Manager. She wanted to move back to Indiana to be closer to family and started working for White Lodging. Carrie held multiple positions with White Lodging, starting with the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown as their Housekeeping Manager. It is in Indianapolis where Carrie learned about housekeeping operations within a convention hotel, as well as developing the ability to speak Spanish. She moved to the Residence Inn by Marriott at the Indianapolis Airport as an Assistance General Manager for about 1 year. After the birth of her first daughter, Carrie with her husband, decided to purchase her parent’s motel as her parents were looking to retire. This venture was a great opportunity for Carrie to work as well as be a stay-at-home mom. Plans changed as work/life balance were becoming more of a struggle. Carrie and her husband decided to sell the motel and Carrie returned to White Lodging. Carrie then became the General Manager at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Indianapolis Airport. She made quick work of the hotel improving on guest scores, profitability, as well as market share. Carrie was then asked to become General Manager at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Milford, Ohio. She won a Merit Award for Year Over Year Extended Stay Occupancy in 2011 for the Homewood Brand, as well as the Apple REIT Master of Margins Award, an award given every year by the owner. This was for highest profit margin growth year over year. She then moved her family to Gainesville, Florida to work at the Hilton Garden Inn that is managed by McKibbon Hospitality. While in Gainesville, Carrie earned another Apple REIT Master of Margins Award. Carrie was an active part of the community and served on the board for the Sports Commission. Carrie and her husband also welcomed twins while in Gainesville. Looking to continue and grow her career with McKibbon Hospitality, Carrie moved her family to Tallahassee to become the General Manager of the Aloft. She has been with the Aloft in Tallahassee for the past two years and a total of five years with McKibbon Hospitality.
Carrie has a true passion for hospitality, as well as helping others develop in their career. She has helped multiple front desk agents move on to be Assistant General Managers, as well as Assistant General Managers on to becoming General Managers. Carrie strives to take the time to learn others’ goals and then help them to achieve them.
The Aloft just recently launched a foster dog program in partnership with The Leon County Humane Society. The hotel provides housing for a dog that is in need of a forever home, in the hopes that more people are able to interact with the dog and get them a home sooner. The program has been very successful and our guests and Aloft team have enjoyed caring for each dog. Along with this, Aloft also hosts works of many local artists. These various pieces are changed out every few months and is a great way for visitors to Tallahassee to be able to experience local.
McKibbon Hospitality is a family company that is also dedicated to the communities we call home. This type of culture was the main draw for Carrie to move her family to Florida and why she continues to have the passion for hospitality and for the teams with whom she works.
